The design has been adapted from a wall stencil in the original Chicago Stock Exchange building (1893-1972) by Louis Sullivan. It is a geometrically stylized motif of a flower.
Louis Sullivan (1856-1924) was one of the most influential American architects in history. He is considered by many to be the "father of modernism" and is credited as the creator of the modern skyscraper. His ideas helped inspire the Prairie School movement, which included designers such as Frank Lloyd Wright, George Elmslie, and William Purcell.
